The Department of Health have launched a “Diabetes Commissioning Toolkit” which aims to provide a useful resource to all NHS commissioners of diabetes services. It describes how to carry out a health needs assessment for a local diabetes population and provides a generic specification for diabetes care, signposting recognised quality markers and suggesting key outcomes for the service. The National Diabetes Support Team have also produced a FAQ leaflet alongside this. There is also a new tool produced by the Yorkshire and Humber PHO which has been produced to go alongside the commissioning toolkit and which helps local services assess where they are now at: www.yhpho.org.uk/diabetes_commissioning.aspx
